National Urban League - The Hamptons
my new friend/mentor john asked me for directions to the Hampton's for a shoot he was covering. i offered to drive him out there cause taking the LIRR plus a cab can be a bitch when lugging camera equipment - even when u are from nyc
we planned to head out around 10am - it's better to be mad early than 1 minute late - but due to some delays at the cleaners, we didn't leave til almost noon. the ride there wasn't too bad - john acting as my co pilot- we had tunes and good convo all the way there. the adventure began once we got to the Hampton's. one thing about LI, they don't believe in street signs. we never saw Scuddle Hole rd, and followed some signs to Sag Harbour. after a few U-turns and directions, we made it to our destination an hour early - go team!
The view was beautiful! sailing, jet-skiing, and other water sports... the beach, the sun... we didn't have much to do since the party didn't began until 4:30p. so while the caterers prepared the food and the NUL members prepared the gift bags and guest entry, we took test shots and talked lenses. John is an amazing photographer! he put me on to a bunch of tips to make my life a little easier. like not swapping lenses so often as it can lead to dirt and other things on your sensor - which is what I'm suffering from at the moment, and making sure I'm paid what my work is worth. the latter I need to work on :/
The Urban League was honouring D. Anthony "Chip" Lumar and his wife Dr. Yamma Lumar for their donation of $5 Million dollars to the league. Alma Brown, Star Jones and Marc H. Morial - President & CEO of NUL and former Mayor of New Orleans - were there to present the Lumar's with a public THANK YOU and a lovely painting - i didn't get the artist name.
More pics to come soon!
